About Us

Children-in-Science and Technology is a registered Association (Rc.55497) aimed at popularizing Science and Technology among children for self-reliance; It has been on for the past two decades. CIST is an off shoot of an innovative project Children Science Clinic(CSC) designed for African children between the ages of five(5) and twelve(12) years. This is to catch them young for Science through out-of-school activities, community-linked and integrated approaches.

CIST Conferences assemble educators, educationists, scientists, policy makers and implementers, Non-Government and Civil Society Organizations for presentations and exhibitions. Children and youths that are the main target, are involved in science-based activities, workshops and talk shows to popularize Science and Technology for self-reliance and employment.

Papers presented at the conference are published in the International Journal of Children-in-Science and Technology (JOCIST) after peer-review exercises.

CIST has held nine (9) successful local and international conferences in the past with various themes as stated:

  • CIST PORT-HARCOURT 2010- Motivating Children-in-Science and Technology Towards Achieving Millennium Development Goals (Rivers State, Nigeria)
  • CIST GHANA 2011- Enhancing the Future of Children-in-Science and Technology for Sustainable Development (Accra, Ghana)
  • CIST ABUAD 2012- Focusing on the Potentials of Children-in-Science and Technology for Sustainable Development (Ekiti State, Nigeria)
  • CIST TANZANIA 2014- Empowering Children-in-Science and Technology Towards Sustainable Development Goals (Iringa, Tanzania, East Africa)
  • CIST KWARA 2016- Exploring the environment for Children-in-Science and Technology towards sustainable development (Kwara State, Nigeria)

CIST aims to raise the level of scientific and technological literacy for sustainable National development to meet

  • Social progress which recognizes the needs of everyone
  • Maintenance of high and stable levels of economic growth, food sufficiency and employment
  • Adoption of integrated approaches to basic sciences for children education
  • Sensitization of the populace to environmental and health-related issues
  • Provision of learning materials as well as adoption of innovative teaching methods and improved techniques to boost the interest of children in science and technology
  • Prudent use of national resources
  • Utilization of available resources for effective protection of the environment
  • Raising awareness on security issues
